Positive Behavior Support

Sabin has adopted a positive motto this year that will promote and reinforce home training around common courtesy and standards of conduct. Our basic premises are that we expect appropriate conduct to be displayed at school at all school sponsored activities. We expect students to take pride in themselves, in their fellow students, in Sabin staff and in the school building and grounds. We expect students to follow school rules. To reinforce these important ideas, this year our school-wide focus and motto will be Sabin International’s “High 5!” The visual is an open hand with each digit representing a critical concept in developing students into contributing, successful citizens. Starting with the thumb, the concepts are to be respectful, be responsible, be safe, be honest, and be the best that you can be.
We will be explicitly teaching and modeling each one of the concepts with the students on a daily basis. They will see reinforcing messages in the classrooms, hallways, cafeteria and gym and when students demonstrate one of these concepts in daily situations, please acknowledge them with a “High 5!” and name the concept you observed them doing. Some examples (not limited to these) of the concepts are as follows
Be Respectful: When you see a student demonstrating a respectful attitude, using nice manners, is kind, caring, working quietly, using appropriate language, following directions, being helpful
Being Responsible Taking care of property, complying with directions/tasks, following class/school rules, being helpful, taking responsibility for their actions
Being Safe
Students acting in a considerate, safe manner, self monitoring their behavior and taking responsibility for it, following rules of the school/classroom/playground, making appropriate judgments about what items should be at school
Being Honest Students demonstrating honesty in everyday interactions, in tough situations, modeling honesty
Being The Best You Can Be Students demonstrating a positive attitude toward themselves and others as they begin and go through their day, students putting forth their best efforts, trying when they are not sure that they can succeed
