Flu Illness Alert: Staying Healthy

Posted 12/19/2018

As we enter the colder months, we also enter flu season, and we want to help ensure we’re keeping our kids as healthy as possible and avoid the spread of influenza as much as possible. Symptoms of influenza include fever, headache and/or muscle aches, dry cough, sore throat, runny nose and general fatigue. Below are recommendations for DPS families:

  • Contact your health care provider if a child has influenza-like symptoms or you have concerns about his/her health.
  • Exclude children with flu-like symptoms from childcare/school until at lease 24 hours after they no longer have a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
  • Please consider getting an annual flu shot for everyone in your household.

Good hand washing and staying home if you are sick is the best way to prevent further illness. If you have questions, contact Denver Public Health, 303-602-3614, Monday-Friday between 8 a.m and 4 p.m. You may also contact the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment at 720-913-1311.
