IB Exhibition Mentors Wanted

Fifth-Grade Students are Seeking Mentors for Exhibition!!

Are you willing to give an hour or two a month?

& Abel Varney (SmartLab Facilitator & Fifth-Grade Teacher)

A mentor is a guide for students, being there to offer help with the process of investigation.  You may support them by:

  • asking questions and helping interpret difficult
  • information – what is the problem and how can it be solved, how to use data
  • suggesting directions that they may take for their research
  • narrowing their focus
  • suggesting possible sources of information
  • interviews, surveys
  • reviewing the expectations of an excellent
  • inquiry to be sure that students are following their plan and that they are within schedule –
  • timeline creation, goal setting

**The time commitment involved in this mentor process is minimal but crucial**

Student groups will need to meet with mentors 1-2 hours per month to guide the investigation.  Each group will make its own schedule. Make a choice and decide to mentor a group or… find a partner (parent, coworker, a new friend, guest teacher, family member, a retired teacher, etc.), and commit to helping our fifth-graders with the best exhibition year yet!!
