Sabin Stallion Spinners
Greetings Sabin Students and Parents:
My name is Kimberly Davenport and I am the coach for the new Sabin Stallion Spinners Dance/Flag Team coach. I was a member of the Denver Citywide Marching band for 3 seasons and a Color Guard member of the Colorado State University Marching Band for 3 seasons. I have a BA from Colorado State University in Speech Communications and I am a current Sabin Special Education Paraprofessional. I am also a Colorado native and a product of Denver Public Schools myself.
I love to dance and I love color guard. It is my goal to expose our 4th and 5th grade students to dance and color guard/pom pom basic skills. Our students will learn the importance of team work, self-confidence, self-respect, showmanship, and leadership.
Practices will be held on MONDAYS, WEDNESDAYS AND THURSDAYS FROM 3:15 TO 5:00 PM. The first practice will be on OCTOBER 5, 2015. All students will meet in the lunchroom and then move to our practice area. We will hold practice within the school as well as outdoors on school grounds. Students will need to dress comfortably, leggings, shorts, and t-shirts. Students will dance barefoot or in tennis shoes. Students should also bring a water bottle and I will provide a healthy snack before the start of practice.
I will instruct basic dance movements including: dance positions 1-5, isolations, basic jazz, creative movement, and flag/pom pom skills. Students will be shown proper wrist positions and body movements to keep from injuring their bodies.
I will keep parents informed on potential exhibitions and performances. This is a no cost program to our students and families. I will organize fundraisers to provide materials needed to create a dynamic dance team.
Students will also be expected to uphold Sabin’s IB student profiles as well as the guidelines I put into place to ensure our student dancers are beacons for school spirit and leadership.
